Hexane-What is it?
What is it you may ask? Before I answer that, let me ask you a question. Would you continue to apply to your body a chemical that you knew is causing you harm? No. That is what you are doing when you are using hexane: Hexane is a chemical that is used to extract the fat soluble content of the seed from the Shea nut. During the Hexane process when Shea Butter is extracted, the Shea Butter is degummed to remove phospholipids; it is also bleached and treated with absorbents to remove pigments and trace metals. That’s not all that it removes. We’ll get to that later. Hexane is also in the same family as the gasoline that you put into your car. Hexane has many of the same properties of gasoline.
Hexane-Why should you stay away from it?
The main reasons to support why is Hexane is used to produce
Shea Butter is because it is cheap and able to yield a higher amount of Shea Butter oil from the seed. Here’s the biggest problem. Not only does Hexane remove impurities from Shea butter. It strips Shea Butter of its original moisturizing and healing nutrients and distorts the color of the Shea Butter. It is a toxic chemical. Please know where you are buying your Shea Butter from. If you are tired of looking, you can stop right here. Our line of
products are chemical free, including Hexane.
